First Weekend in August - Annual Event

Spanning 675 miles and sprawling across 5 states is the massive Hwy 127 yard sale, also called the Hwy 127 Corridor Sale.

It began in Jamestown, Tennessee years ago and has become so popular an even that people even come from other countries to experience it.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Yard Sale Experience:

If at all possible, don’t drive it alone. Trying to see what’s on either side and find a place to park in bumper to bumper traffic is a sure recipe for an accident waiting to happen.

If you collect specific things, assign someone in the car the task of looking for those things as you roll past. Park with regard for having to get back out in traffic. It’s easy to just whip off the road when you see something without thinking - now, how easy is it going to be to get back on if someone parks right on top of me in back or front?

Get up earlier than you ever want to get up, to get the best deals. People are set up and ready to go by 5:00 a.m. for this each day. If you arrive at 9:00 a.m., you’ve already missed a ton of bargains!

Absolute Must-Haves:

It is HOT in August in the South. Bring hats, lots of water, electrolyte drinks, snacks and a wash cloth to wet and place around your neck for cooling.

Wear sunscreen, comfortable shoes and clothes, and mosquito repellent for the early morning shopping hours. Those new clip-ons work though I dislike that they are chemicals. Would love someone to come out with a natural version of that.

Enjoy!

Official dates FOR 2010 are August 5-8 but get started by Tuesday at the latest, because the vast majority of the vendors will set up and sell before the official kick-off date of August 5.

I’ll be setting up for the very first time and I’m excited about that. Come see me right next to the new mini-mall flea market on Hwy 127. If you are driving in from Crossville, TN (the Crossville to Jamestown stretch is considered one of many hot spots on the route) then the mall will be off the road a tad, just past Sexton Automotive on your right.

I’ll be at the sheltered structure near the mini-mall building so come on in out of the sun, shop at booth 7 with me and then, find bathrooms and food in the mini-mall for more of a break.

I’ll have signed and numbered art and original art and rare books as well as lots and lots of really cheap yard sale type stuff like clothes, shoes, purses, kid’s toys, etc.

Want to set up? The owner, Sandra, may still have spaces. Call her at 931-267-7003. Tell her Neva told you about the mini-mall.
